The structure of a cast steel globe valve is engineered for durability and tight shutoff. It consists of a cast steel valve body (typically made from materials like WCB or WC6, known for their strength and resistance to corrosion), a disc, a valve stem, a handwheel, and seating components. The cast steel body ensures the valve can withstand working pressures ranging from 1.6MPa to 10MPa and temperatures from -29℃ to 425℃, making it suitable for harsh industrial conditions. The disc and seat feature a precision-machined flat or conical interface, designed to form a tight seal when the valve is closed.
 
The operating principle relies on linear motion to control flow. Rotating the handwheel drives the valve stem, which moves the disc axially toward or away from the seat. When the disc descends to tightly fit against the seat, the valve closes, completely blocking the fluid flow. Raising the disc creates an annular gap between the disc and seat, allowing fluid to pass through—with the gap size adjustable to regulate flow rate. This "throttling" action enables the valve to not only shut off flow entirely but also fine-tune flow levels, making it ideal for applications requiring precise control.
 
Cast steel globe valves find widespread use in power generation (e.g., controlling superheated steam in thermal power plants), petroleum refining (regulating crude oil and refined products), and high-pressure water supply systems. Their key advantages include:
 
  • Exceptional sealing performance: The tight fit between the disc and seat ensures zero leakage, critical for preventing hazardous or valuable media loss.
  • High pressure and temperature resistance: The cast steel construction maintains structural integrity under extreme conditions.
  • Versatility in flow control: Capable of both on/off shutoff and throttling, adapting to diverse operational needs.
  • Ease of maintenance: Replaceable components like discs and seats simplify repairs, extending the valve’s service life.
 
While their design creates higher flow resistance compared to gate valves, cast steel globe valves compensate with superior control precision. Modern iterations, such as those with bellows-sealed stems, further enhance leak tightness, meeting stricter industrial safety standards. As a cornerstone of industrial fluid systems, the cast steel globe valve continues to play a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient, and controlled fluid transport across critical sectors.
