Lift Check Valve

2025-06-27

The lift check valve is a unidirectional flow control device that automatically opens and closes via medium pressure to prevent backflow, widely used in industrial and civil pipeline systems. Its core structure comprises a valve body, disc, seat, and guiding mechanism, operating on the balance between fluid pressure and the disc's gravitational force.
default name
When media flow forward, the fluid pressure overcomes the disc's gravity, pushing it vertically upward off the seat sealing surface to open the passage with minimal resistance. Once the flow stops or reverses, the disc drops onto the seat under gravity and backpressure, forming a tight seal to block reverse flow. This design ensures a large sealing contact area between the disc and seat, enabling excellent sealing performance that meets strict standards like ANSI/FCI 70-2 Class VI for near-zero leakage.

For material selection, valve bodies are commonly made of cast iron, cast steel, or stainless steel to adapt to different pressure and temperature conditions. Discs and seats use hard alloys, rubber, or PTFE based on media characteristics to enhance wear and corrosion resistance. For example, in petrochemical applications with corrosive media, a stainless-steel body paired with a PTFE sealing surface ensures high-pressure resistance and corrosion protection. In water supply systems, cast-iron lift check valves offer economic reliability for unidirectional water flow.

Compared to swing check valves, lift check valves provide better sealing but with higher flow resistance. They also require strict installation orientation—vertical installation on horizontal pipelines or vertical pipelines with upward media flow—to ensure the disc operates normally via gravity. Despite these limitations, their superior sealing and backflow prevention make them the preferred choice for high-seal-demand scenarios such as steam pipelines, pump outlet protection, and high-rise building water supply, playing a critical role in ensuring system safety and stable operation.
